Great post! I agree completely with what you are saying here. I think your &#039;designing for these things up front&#039; comment really sums it up well.  Most of the customers that I visit who have performance problems with their BizTalk solution have really not thought about these things up front.

In my experience some customers do not even performance test their BizTalk solution with the actual adapter they will be using in production, instead relying on say the file adapter.  The file adapter is one of our fastest adapters and due to the nature of the transport is non-transactional.  Once you add a transactional adapter into the mix you really have changed the ground so very very much, that any results you gain are unlikely to be comparable.

I hate to give such a shameless plug, but Kevin Smith who Darren and I worked with on the Professional BizTalk Server 2006 book has written an absolutely awesome testing chapter which I emplore everyone who will be putting a BizTalk system live to read (and preferably before you begin your project!)
